Are you a springs enthusiast interested in learning more about the history, ecology, geology, and ethics of Florida’s springs? Then sign up today for the 2nd annual Florida Springs Institute field school!

This three-day educational experience at the Wekiwa Springs State Park Youth Camp will include lectures, guest speakers, and a full day of fieldwork and fun at Rock Springs Run. Students will learn the science behind springs health and how human activities are affecting springs ecosystems and the public’s drinking water. Students will also gain a basic knowledge of existing laws and measures that help to protect this shared resource.

The field school will be led by Dr. Robert L. Knight, an environmental scientist and recent author of Silenced Springs: Moving from Tragedy to Hope. Dr. Knight is the founder and Director of the Howard T. Odum Florida Springs Institute and has served as an adjunct professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering Sciences at the University of Florida.

This field school is open to the general public, and registration fees include meals, lodging, guest lectures, field trips and opportunities to explore nature.

Past guest speakers at the field school have included Dr. Steve Walsh of the U.S. Geological Survey Southeast Ecological Science Center, Rob Mattson of the St. Johns River Water Management District, and Jane Durocher of the Center for Earth Jurisprudence.
