Archaeological evidence

indicates that for

thousands of years

humans have been

drawn to Florida’s

life–giving springs

which served as sources of food,

water and, it’s presumed,

relief

from Florida’s steamy summers.

In the 1900s, springs became Florida's first real tourist attractions with thousands of visitors drawn to spring-side health resorts. Today, springs continue to attract awed and grateful visitors. Florida's 12 state parks named for springs draw more than two million visitors each year. Springs like Weeki Wachee and Silver Springs are major attractions, while Ginnie Springs is the most popular freshwater diving location in the world.
